About the Artist

Mel Edwards  is a born performer. Her first memory is of standing on a hassock in the middle of the living room, arms outstretched, belting out a song of non-sense words. Her second creative memory was of crawling through the snow pretending she was Jack in the Beanstalk, or so she called it.

Growing up, she began to self-censor, to make herself smaller, queiter, more well-behaved to get by without sticking out as being a problem. No matter how hard she worked to do the right thing, she never lost her love for the arts, even if she killed her own confidence.

In college she was in 13 shows in two years, and later tried to put her art aside to achieve in both corporate America and public education.

Since 2000, Mel has been on a journey to reclaim her full artistic identity and busting her butt to help all women do the same.

"If I've learned anything my mistakes it is, 'Never sell your soul for a job, a house or a relationship. In the end, you're only killing yourself!' " - Mel.
